Choosing a natural diamond
This search lists natural diamonds only. Lab-grown diamonds have their own search, so the two are never mixed in one set of results. Shape comes first for most buyers because it sets the character of the stone, and round, oval, emerald, pear, marquise, cushion, radiant, asscher and heart all behave differently at the same carat weight.
Carat weight measures mass rather than visible size, so compare millimetre dimensions as well as weight. Colour is graded from D downwards, and clarity runs from IF through the VVS, VS, SI and I grades. Cut quality is graded separately and is usually what most affects how a stone looks in daylight.
The search can be switched between stones that carry a grading report and stones that do not. Report availability and the issuing laboratory vary from stone to stone, so check the details listed for each diamond before you decide.
