Sizing a Bracelet That Is Worn Every Day

A bracelet should sit loose enough to move on the wrist and tight enough not to slide over the hand. In practice that means adding about three quarters of an inch to a snug wrist measurement for a flat link bracelet, and closer to an inch for a thick, high-profile one, because a heavier bracelet needs room to sit properly rather than bind.

Most men's bracelets here are 14K yellow gold, with a few in 10K and a sterling silver group. Curb links are the most common style; Miami Cuban, rope, cable, Franco, Byzantine and rolo links are also represented, along with a few adjustable designs. A couple of pieces are set with stones, including a blue topaz curb bracelet and a sterling silver bracelet with cubic zirconia.

Link style decides how a bracelet wears. Curb and Miami Cuban links lie flat against the wrist and are the usual choice for a piece worn daily. Franco links are square in section and sit densely without twisting. Rope throws more light but has more surface for dirt to collect in, so it benefits from an occasional soak in warm soapy water. Byzantine links are woven and flexible, with a more textured look. For matching chains, see men's chains.

Construction matters too. A solid link is solid metal throughout; a semi-solid link, which at least one Cuban bracelet here uses, is lighter for its width but dents more easily. The listing names the construction where it is semi-solid.

The clasp is usually the first part to wear on a bracelet worn constantly. Lobster clasps are secure and simple to use; box clasps sit flush with the links. Check the clasp every so often, because a bracelet that comes loose is easily lost. Our care guide explains cleaning by metal. Unworn bracelets in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery.

How do I measure my wrist for a bracelet?

Wrap a soft tape snugly around the wrist bone, then add about three quarters of an inch for a flat link or closer to an inch for a thick one.

Are the gold bracelets solid gold?

Bracelets stamped 10K or 14K are karat gold. Where a link is semi-solid, the listing says so.

Which link style is best for daily wear?

Curb and Miami Cuban links lie flat and wear comfortably every day. Rope and Byzantine are more textured and benefit from regular cleaning.
