A replacement band only fits if three things match your watch: the lug width, the way the band attaches, and the length. This guide covers each one. Our bands are not made for any particular watch brand and are not for smartwatches.
1. Lug width
Lug width is the inside distance between the two lugs (the horns that hold the band) on the watch case, measured in millimetres. It is the most important measurement: a band 1 mm too wide will not go in, and one 1 mm too narrow will look loose and can shift on the spring bars.
- Measure straight across between the inside faces of the lugs with a millimetre ruler or calipers.
- Many original straps have the width printed on the back near the lug end, often as a single number such as 20.
- Choose the width that matches exactly. Our listings run from 6 mm to 24 mm (most are 10 mm to 24 mm); each listing shows the widths it comes in.
Two-piece leather straps usually narrow toward the buckle. Where the manufacturer states the buckle-end width, the listing shows it.
2. How the band attaches
- Standard spring bars. Most of our two-piece straps fit watches that use spring bars through the lugs. Spring bars are not listed as included: reuse your watch’s bars, or fit a pair sized to your lug width.
- Quick-release. Listings marked quick-release have spring bars with built-in levers, so no spring-bar tool is needed.
- Pass-through (one-piece) straps. These thread under the watch between the case back and the fixed bars or spring bars, so they need clearance under the case.
- Expansion and link bracelets. These use adjustable end pieces that fit between the lugs on spring bars. Each listing gives the lug-width range the end pieces fit.
3. Length
Each listing states the manufacturer’s length as Short, Regular or Long, with the measurement in inches. For two-piece straps this is the combined length of both pieces, not counting the watch case. The most reliable way to choose is to measure your current band end to end (both pieces, laid flat) and pick the closest length.
- Mesh bands adjust with a sliding clasp; expansion bracelets stretch.
- Most of our leather straps include two buckles, one yellow-tone and one silver-tone; the listing states what is included.
