Before you choose
Choosing a lab-grown diamond
A lab-grown diamond is chemically and optically the same material as a mined diamond. It is graded on the same characteristics, and the search above lets you filter on each of them directly rather than browsing a fixed selection. Shape comes first for most buyers because it sets the character of the stone, and round, oval, emerald, pear, marquise, cushion, radiant, asscher and heart all behave differently at the same carat weight.
Carat weight measures mass rather than visible size, which is why the search also reports millimetre dimensions. Two stones of identical weight can look noticeably different across the top depending on how they are cut. Colour is graded from D downwards, and clarity runs from IF through the VVS, VS, SI and I grades. Cut quality and make are graded separately and are usually the characteristics that most affect how a stone actually looks in daylight.
Grading reports are available on many stones, and the search can be filtered to show only those with a report from GIA, IGI or GCAL. Not every stone carries a report, and not every report comes from the same laboratory, so the filter is the reliable way to narrow to stones documented the way you want. Depth and table percentages are listed for each result so proportions can be compared directly.

- Are all of these diamonds certified?
- No. Grading report availability varies by stone. The search includes filters for GIA, IGI and GCAL reports, so you can narrow the results to stones that carry an independent report from the laboratory you prefer.
- What is the difference between a lab-grown and a natural diamond?
- A lab-grown diamond has the same chemical composition, crystal structure and optical properties as a mined diamond, and is graded the same way. The difference is origin. Our guide on natural versus lab-grown diamonds covers this in detail.
- Can I compare stones?

- Can I set a diamond I find here into a ring?
